What And To Whom, Exactly, Are We To Protest?

Multiple sources indicate that hate crime is on the rise in America. Anti Asian attacks have captured most of the headlines of late, but anti-Semitic attacks are also in abundance, and, there’s even a smattering of attacks against other races as well. And, as with many societal problems, New York City is in the vanguard of the increases. And, it turns out that few of the recent attacks are “white supremacist” in nature, as is often claimed by “progressives,” as many of the perpetrators have been black, mid Eastern and Hispanic, NOT white, supremacist or otherwise.

In response to this explosion in hate crime, liberals and “progressives” have taken to the streets in protest. But, exactly to whom are they protesting?

Consider, for a moment, a recent anti-Asian attack in NYC, that was carried out by an individual, said to be homeless, by the name of Lloyd Revell. On security camera, Revell is seen punching Asian victim, Youya Hua, numerous times in the face, and then BITTING OFF PART OF HUA’S FINGER. Hua stated that Revell kept screaming at him to “go back to your country!” This attack spurred a number of protest rallies. Protesting such barbarism is, of course, commendable – but to whom or what are the protests directed? The answer to thus question is not straight forward. Perhaps the protests might be directed at the city of New York for allowing Revell to be homeless. Had Revell not been homeless, as the narrative goes, perhaps he wouldn’t have attacked Hua. But wait! Revell WASN’T homeless! It’s true that he didn’t OWN a home, but, instead, was enjoying free housing at the Skyline Hotel in mid town Manhattan, paid for by you and I. Perhaps the protests should be directed, instead, at the Department of Corrections. It turns out that Revell was on PAROLE following incarceration for a previous assault. A police spokesman indicated that Revell was known to have had “numerous other arrests” as well. What the HELL was this criminal doing at large? If he had been kept behind bars, the attack, of course, would never have happened. But wait! Criminals have rights too! “Excessive sentences” are an anathema to the liberal agenda, claimed to be “cruel,” “unfair,” and disproportionally punishing to “people of color.” Can’t go THERE, I’m afraid. Instead, perhaps, the protests should be aimed at the staff psychiatrists that cleared Revell for parole. But wait! Revell, they would say, no longer represented a danger to society, having served time and, as a consequence, had been “rehabilitated.” (Can such a recidivist criminal EVER be truly rehabilitated?) Perhaps the protests should be directed against “hate” itself. Great idea. But wait! Hate has been an intrinsic feature of the human psyche since the dawn of humanity. While amelioration of hate would indeed be wonderful, I think it safe to say that no protest march, no demonstration and no New York Times editorial is going to make it disappear. So, protesting “hate?”… Good luck with that…. Dangerous criminals, especially recidivists like Revell, need to be identified as such and kept away from society FOR GOOD.

Just a few months ago (March 31, 2021), there was another assault in the same neighborhood (West 43rd Street, NY, NY) that also drew protests. In that attack, a SIXTY FIVE YEAR OLD FILIPINO WOMAN was thrown to the ground and repeatedly stomped and kicked by 38 year old Brandon Elliot. A look at Elliot’s record, makes previous criminal Lloyd Revell, amazingly, seem like a Boy Scout. It turns out that Elliot was on LIFETIME PAROLE at the time of the attack… WHY was Elliot on parole?… He had been previously incarcerated…. Why had Elliot been previously incarcerated?… Well, it was… for MURDERING HIS OWN MOTHER. Yes, you read that right: MURDERING HIS OWN MOTHER. Again, what the HELL was this murderous criminal doing at large?

Now aside from these nasty beatings, another trend seems to be developing in NYC: SLASHING!… I’m afraid, dear reader, that SLASHINGS have become “all the rage” in the Big Apple. The following is a collection of articles on slashings that have appeared recently ion the New York Post:

The New York Post has even used the plethora of slashing attacks as a kind of promotional tool:

Yep. “EXTRA, EXTRA. READ ALL ABOUT IT! GET YOUR DAILY SLASHING NEWS HERE!”

It’s gotten so bad that duplicitous mayor and far leftist, Bill de Blasio, has had to take to the airwaves again and again to inform New Yorkers, whom he must believe are extremely dim witted, that the subways actually ARE safe. And, to try to “prove it,” he says he rides the subway (once in a blue moon, I suspect, and never without security, I’m sure)…. NO ONE believes him however.

It’s gotten so bad, in fact, that some liberals are, dare I say it, calling for MORE POLICE PRESENCE in the subways! And, police presence has been increased for now, but might be hard to sustain long term, since, at the insistence of leftists and “progressives,” New York City cut ONE BILLION DOLLARS from its 2021 police budget.

Might all these slashings have SOMETHING to do with the fact that arrested criminals in NYC are so quickly back on the street? Under new rules established by de Blasio, NYC releases arrested criminals immediately upon the completion of the booking process and without bail. That just MIGHT have something to do with it.

And, on top of the breathtaking incidence of hate crimes, regular old crimes are flourishing as well. Murders have increased spectacularly. “Pride of place” for murders goes to without question to Chicago, where murders climbed from 345 in 2019 to 524 in 2020, with double digit homicides nearly every weekend. NYC isn’t far behind with 305 in 2020 up from 226 in 2019. Robbery, assault and rape have also shown significant increases in most American cities as well.

So, what SHOULD all the well intentioned protestors actually be calling for in their protests? Let’s offer a partial list:

1. Ending no bail release of criminals.
2. Resumption of “broken windows policing” that reduces major crime by apprehending and incarcerating criminals caught committing lesser crimes.
3. Resumption of “stop and frisk” policy which, as carried out during the Giuliani and Bloomberg administrations, was extraordinarily effective in finding and removing weapons from the “street.”
4. INCREASED police funding.
5. Judicial reform increasing the support and protection of police officers carrying out their dangerous and thankless work.
6. Judicial reform in which expedient plea bargains are prohibited, thereby incarcerating criminals for the crimes they actually have committed, with sentences appropriate to those crimes.
7. Reform of the process of penal psychiatry whereby “bad calls” involving the release of dangerous criminals are peer reviewed with consequences for the specialist found to have been in error.
8. Penal reform in which criminals are kept incarcerated LONGER.
9. Extension and completion of our southern border wall and then TIGHTENING of our border in order to reduce the number of criminal migrants that individually or in gangs commit a significant portion of crime.
10. Immigration reform that will limit or eliminate the acceptance of individuals from alien cultures that have little use for tolerance and the rules of modern civil society.
11. Changing the public narrative in which criminal acts (and their consequences) are blamed on EVERYTHING but the criminals themselves.
12. Educational reform in which we clearly explain to our youth that resisting arrest is not only a crime of and by itself, but doing so increases the likelihood of injury or death during the arrest process.

It is only when we insist that ALL members of society follow the LAWS of society, and that they, and society, accept the consequences of their criminality when they do not, that the rampant crime and violence that now afflicts the “woke” America of 2021, cease.
