And let’s say this conspiracy implicated not just the FBI but also but also the White House, Justice Department and CIA—and that nearly the entire corporate press went along with it, gleefully spreading the false narrative that this candidate was Russian agent, running story after story of fabricated nonsense in a coordinated effort to ensure that the opposing candidate won. In normal times, you’d scoff at such an outlandish story, dismiss it as the plot of some half-baked Tom Clancy novel. That could never happen in America you’d say where we have free and fair elections, the rule of law and so on. If you said any of the above, you’d be WRONG! This narrative did in fact happen on our own shores. It started during the 2016 campaign, continued through the four years of Donald Trump’s presidency and is still underway with the indictment of the former president by New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg, as well as investigations in Georgia and D.C., three YEARS after Trump left office.

“Banana Republic” is a term that conjures up visions of petty dictators in little countries with hot, steamy climates, continual revolutions and of course, banana trees. Opponents of the government in power, if there are any, fear for their freedom and, often, their lives. But it turns out that you don’t need banana trees to have your freedom taken away by the political party in charge. Political persecution is alive and well right here in America. No longer the land of the free, we are becoming, instead, the home of the suppressed. Persecution of political opponents is ongoing in this country, and not just in a small, isolated way. Intimidation of those guilty of “wrong think” has become commonplace.

The Democrats have quietly but relentlessly “weaponized” many of our institutions of justice. What do I mean by weaponize? The left leaning people in power have used the FBI and the Department of Justice to go after conservatives and Republicans, to intimidate them and even imprison them. The persecution of Dinesh D’Souza, Michael Flynn and Roger Stone are high profile cases, but there are, without doubt, many more. The Justice Department’s investigation of parents at school board meetings would be comical if it were not so frightening. All of this is astonishing in a country that at one time prided itself for having “equal justice under the law.” The Justice Department, the FBI, the CIA, and the National Security Agency agencies have become part of the “deep state,” also called by their critics “the swamp.” Their employees were not elected but appointed (primarily during the Obama Administration, but further under Biden) and can not be voted out of office. Make no mistake: they have no intention of relinquishing their jobs.

Remember how many people laughed when Donald Trump claimed that Trump Tower was being wiretapped? It turns out HE WAS RIGHT! (The only caveat being that modern surveillance is, of course, all WIRELESS). From the moment President Trump took office, there were shocking leaks of his administration’s proceedings, illegal investigations into his appointees, arrests, allegations of collusion and impeachments. In other words there was a full scale assault on his entire presidency.

During the 2016 campaign there was the “Steele dossier,”(paid for by Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign) which led to FISA warrants and the absurd “Trump’s Russian Collusion” ruse. The Mueller investigation (all 40 million dollars of it), could not substantiate ANY collusion whatsoever. The subsequent Durham investigation not only reached the same conclusion, but indicated that the subterfuge was DELIBERATE.

The FBI went also went after patriot General Michael Flynn, whom they entrapped and forced a guilty plea by threatening charges against his son!

And, eventually President Trump left office in an election whose veracity was suspect in a number of respects. But that’s a story for another time.

Now, after the 2020 “coup d’etat,” you’d think the Democrats would turn swords into plowshares. But, no! Trump’s VERY EXISTENCE is, apparently, an anathema to them. The lawless left will not let go. Like a vicious animal, they won’t rest until they see our 45th President behind bars. And for what reason? Because he had the audacity to beat them in the 2016 presidential election, and, subsequently, had the courage to stand up to them.

In order to achieve their nefarious objectives, Trump’s tormentors have abandoned due process, have changed laws, and have trampled on rights that Americans have traditionally held dear and which were explicitly stipulated in the Bill of Rights. (For an excellent in-depth analysis, please see a brilliant book by Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz entitled “Get Trump,” available through Amazon and Barnes & Noble).

Although the “slings and arrows” from Trump’s adversaries have been aimed squarely at him, in a way they are really aiming also at the citizens of our country. Their ire is with Americans who disagree with them. Ultimately, this animus is with our people and our freedoms. Like totalitarian regimes throughout history, they brook no dissent. The closer they can get to a one party government, the better they’ll like it. Just like Communist Russia, Communist China, Communist Cuba, Communist North Korea, Communist Cambodia, Communist Venezuela, and on and on (notice a common thread here?).

So, if the government can go after a former president essentially because they DISAGREE with him, imagine what they can do to you and me if they disagree with us? Perhaps that’s their wider objective. To create a feeling of wariness. Unease. Maybe, as a consequence, you’re feeling like should keep your views a little bit more to to yourself these days? Maybe you’re feeling just a little bit apprehensive? Maybe even a bit scared?… Maybe you should be. This is how it starts. This is the slippery slope to totalitarianism. You may think I am being overly melodramatic and this can’t really happen here. I used to believe that. But, looking back over just the last few years and seeing much our country has changed in that short time, I wonder if it may be too late already to stop it. If so… WELCOME TO THE BANANA REPUBLIC OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
