The Age Of Irony: Bite Sized Ironies

In several previous essays I have suggested that the mixed up era in which we find ourselves can best be called “The Age Of Irony.”

In an effort to keep readers abreast of the many and varied instances of contemporary irony, EmperorsNuClothes.com will, from time to time, present some irresistible examples. A small sampling follows:

>An article appeared recently in the Norwegian newspaper, Berlingske (4/1/21), by Mikkel Danielsen. The article revealed that the Norwegian government is alarmed that refugees now given residence in that country might be spreading COVID. HOW might they be spreading the disease?… By bringing it back with them…. Bringing it back from where, you ask?… From Syria and the Mid East…. And HOW were they doing that, you ask?… By traveling back to Syria and the Mid East… ON VACATION…. Yes, you read that right!… They are VACATIONING in the very lands from which they are SUPPOSED TO BE REFUGEES!!!!! Oh, the irony.

>Recently it has come to light that Black Lives Matter cofounder, Patrisse Cullors, has gone on a bit of a shopping spree. Readers may know that Ms. Cullors has “self identified” as a black activist and committed socialist, a job description that invariably calls for supporting equitable distribution of wealth. It came as a bit of surprise, therefore, when the New York Post revealed that the “committed socialist” has bought up a number of luxury homes with a combined value of FOUR MILLION DOLLARS, the most valuable of which is located in a WEALTHY LOS ANGELES SUBURB that just happens to be WHITE. Ohhhh, the irony.

And, contributing a bit more irony to the Cullors story, Facebook was so embarrassed by the “optics” of Ms. Cullors’ foray into high end real estate that they BLOCKED users from sharing the NY Post article on their platform. So, despite Facebook’s stated mission to make the world “more open and connected,” they now censor articles that are neither profane nor offensive, but which THEY JUST DON’T LIKE. Again, the irony.

>And, here we are, three months after Donald Trump left the White House, and his tormentors STILL haven’t quit. One of the most ironic memes that STILL circulates is that President Trump is a fascist. Recently I received a digital poster (thanks MO) that put the lie to this preposterous claim. It’s “addressed” to the nincompoops who still refer to President Trump as a fascist:

>Lastly, I’ll close with a another digital poster. This one features an iconic character from the “Back To The Future” movies, Dr. Emmet Brown. It was Dr. Brown that invented a time machine based on the futuristic DeLorean sports car. Having come back from the future, Dr. Brown speaks to Michael J. Fox:
