Farewell To Freedom

Another immigrant from the Mid East has chosen to show his gratitude to the United States of America for welcoming him to our shores by trying to kill and maim his hosts. Early Monday, Akayed Ullah decided to express his deep appreciation to the people of America for their generosity by detonating an improvised explosive device (IED) in the crowded environs of the New York City Port Authority Bus Terminal at the height of rush hour (7:20 AM). Only Ullah’s gross incompetence can be credited for the fact that no one was actually killed and that he was the only serious casualty.

Less than four months have elapsed since the Hudson Bike path massacre, and we have yet ANOTHER example of the workings of “the religion of peace.” . It appears that these “soft target” attacks are becoming more and more frequent. Apparently, American jihadis will not be “outdone” by their brethren in Europe and the Middle East, who have been very busy of late. And, ISIS has promised that there is much more is on the way to help us celebrate Hanukkah and Christmas.

Ullah, (which, by the way, is NOT a misspelling; it is a contraction that means “of God”) is a 27 year old immigrant from Bangladesh. He freely admits that he was “inspired by ISIS.” He was admitted to the US seven years ago. The story, as described above, is becoming less and less unique. (Abdul Razak Ali Artan, 2016, Tashfeen Malik, 2015, Sayfullo Saipov, 2017). However, there are a few points about this case that bear mentioning.

The first point is that Ullah’s ingratitude and sense of victimization is, apparently, a family trait. As reported in the New York Post, his family is “OUTRAGED at the tactics of investigators” (emphasis mine) responding to the attack. Apparently, after their son carried out a clear cut attempt at MASS MURDER, this man’s family, as well as other local Muslims, were miffed that a teenager (a suspected relative of Ullah) was pulled out of classes and interrogated, and another child was made to stand in the cold. This family and their spokesman were not aware, apparently, that this situation could justifiably be considered to be “a ticking bomb” situation which would justify law enforcement attempts to quickly identify other attacks that may be on the way. But lack of remorse, seething indignation and cries of “victimhood” are the order of the day.

The second point involves the knee jerk response to this act of terror by the liberal talking heads. The talking head in this circumstance is none other than New Jersey Senator Cory Booker. It seems that Mr. Booker has already determined who is to blame for this attack. I will give the reader three guesses as to who the culprit might be….ready?…one…two…three… times up!…the answer is….you guessed it: President Trump! That’s right: President Trump! How’s that you ask?…Well, it’s obvious, you see…According to Booker, Mr. Trump did not approve all of the funds that New York and New Jersey demanded for security, so HE’S directly responsible. This claim is disingenuous, however, for a couple of reasons. First, if Washington doesn’t send all of the requested funds, and those appropriations are deemed essential (as Booker implied), New Jersey, which is quite an affluent state, should be able to fund that security on its own. Second, the Democratic Party’s Pavlovian response of just throwing money, willy-nilly, at some problem, many times is NOT the answer. It hasn’t been widely discussed, but, as reported today in the Washington Examiner, the Department of Homeland Security, actually issued a warning five days ago that a bombing in the US was imminent. So even with advanced warning, our Centurions couldn’t prevent this attack. Which brings me to a very basic truth: no matter how much money is thrown at terrorism in America, and no matter how dedicated and smart our professionals are, it is simply IMPOSSIBLE TO PROTECT ALL OF AMERICA ALL OF THE TIME.

This inconvenient truth dictates that more draconian measures must be taken. Chief among these are:
1) An immediate stop to immigration from all “at risk” areas. If naturally generous Americans want to reach out to the disadvantaged peoples of the world, there are many areas that are home to people that we can welcome with out risk.
2) A travel ban to all travelers from “at risk” areas (a good portion of which is now actually in place, thanks to President Trump AND the Supreme Court).
3) Enhanced surveillance of “at risk” individuals and groups. The Constitutional right to privacy must, under the present circumstances, be superseded, unfortunately, by our government’s obligation to keep its populace safe.
4) Increased border security, as “iron clad” as we can make it, with what ever means are necessary, be they a physical wall, an electronic wall, or something else.

Until and unless we are resolute enough to implement these measures, America will continue to be held hostage by those who mean us harm. Innocent men, women and children will continue to be murdered and maimed. And, little by little, the sense of freedom and security that we Americans have long treasured, will become a thing of the past.
