Snippets 12/6/17
>On November 13 in West Hartford, a burglar by the name of Leroy Mims was apprehended during a break in. The homeowner was able to barricade herself in a specially built safe room and call the police. Mims was taken in to custody with the help of several squad cars and a police dog. It turns out that Mims has a record of ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY ARRESTS and FORTY SIX CONVICTIONS. The offenses include, but are not limited to, robbery, assault and sexual assault.
This story is worthy of comment for 2 reasons:
1) What the HELL was this guy doing out of prison???!! I’ve heard it debated whether “three strikes and you’re out” is fair, but ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY strikes???
2) The chief of police, Brian Foley, was reported by the Courant to have said: “I DON’T KNOW WHY a safe room was installed in the house other than the general safety of family members.” No FOOLIN’, SHERLOCK.
We’ve GOT to DO something about a criminal “justice” system, where violent offenders pass through our prisons like they were a revolving door, and police chiefs don’t know why safe rooms are built.
>Although it received scant media attention, it’s important to note that the Supreme Court on Monday removed all constraints to President Trump’s Travel Ban, for at least the next six months. This allows for full implementation. Readers may recall one of my previous essays (It’s On The Books, 11/27/16) where I discussed the statutes in our Penal Code that specifically grant the President the power to enact such a ban. The Supreme Court, apparently agreed. And it did so by a 7 to 2 margin!
>Last week, long time leftist “commentator” Keith Olbermann announced he was “retiring” from political commentary in ALL media. Olbermann, you may recall, is quite the itinerant. He was fired from MSNBC in Jan 2011. He was also fired from Al Gore’s network show, Current TV, in March of 2012. Since September 2016, he scratched out some work with GQ Magazine’s web programing, but now he claims he’s retiring. Why? He’s retiring, you see, because he is convinced that President Trump will soon be impeached, and says, therefore, “My work is done.” My question is: Does ANYBODY believe him???!!
