Momentum Builds

Senator Ted Cruz has recently announced his endorsement of former President Donald Trump’s third run for the White House, saying that he believes the 2024 primary race “is over” and arguing that it is time for the Republican Party to unite ahead of the general election.

Trump got a commanding 51% of the vote in the Iowa caucuses on Monday, as well as winning 98 of the state’s 99 counties (his only lost county was one that ran out of Democrat to Republican switch forms!).

Cruz did not, as yet, call on DeSantis, the governor of Florida, or Haley, a former South Carolina governor and United Nations ambassador, to drop out of the race, but said that, with the Iowa results, “the people have spoken … it’s time to move onward to victory in November.” Cruz did acknowledge that the upcoming New Hampshire primary, set for Jan. 23, may be “closely contested,” but still, he said he does not see “any path for victory” for anyone else but Trump.

Senator Cruz, who is seeking reelection in Texas, further posted on X Tuesday that he is “proud” to endorse Trump and said that it is “time for us to unite to out Joe Biden and save our country from the Democrats’ destructive agenda.” He also asked followers to make a “strong statement” by donating to support to both Mr. Trump and himself “as we work together to defeat Joe Biden & Save America.

In addition to the endorsement by Senator Cruz, Mr. Trump received a huge endorsement from former opponent presidential candidate, technology entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. I had been a bit wary of Mr. Ramaswamy’s candidacy because I felt he was too abrasive and I suspected that some of the bombast may have been self serving. I do now, however, feel I was wrong about him. In a stirring speech at a Trump rally in New Hampshire, Ramaswamy gave an impassioned and heartfelt plea for Republican unity to defeat the pernicious leftist cabal that is presently doing everything it can to trick the American public, enrich themselves and degrade the greatness of our country all under the guise of “diversity” and “equity.” In short, Ramaswamy came across as a true believer and, now, a fervent supporter of Mr. Trump.

Tim Scott, a black Republican Senator from South Carolina, also announced that he is endorsing former President Donald Trump in the 2024 Republican nomination race, Fox News confirmed on Friday. This is especially striking because in 2012, Governor Haley appointed then U.S. House Representative Scott to replace retiring U.S. Senator Jim DeMint. Trump also just got a strong endorsement from North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum.

As a side note, I must not fail to mention the results of an amazing entrance survey in Iowa during the caucuses that was broadcast by CNN, no less, that found that 68% of Iowan voters did NOT believe that Biden won the 2020 presidential election fairly. Remember, the Democrats and our beloved media repeatedly chastised, “gas lighted” and scolded ANY American that had the temerity to doubt (as I do) the results of that election. Apparently, Iowans are independent minded and self confident enough to make up 1their own minds on the matter. SIXTY EIGHT PERCENT! “Fringe” no more!

During the Cold War, President John F. Kennedy once stated: “The people of the world aren’t stupid. They know that Russia did not erect the Berlin Wall to keep people OUT.” Today I would say something similar: “Americans aren’t stupid. They know that the frantic and numerous legal salvos from Democrats and their minions launched at Mr. Trump are NOT done in the service of justice.” A corollary to this thought is that the Democrats may well indite Mr. Trump all the way back into the White House.

Just in: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has suspended his 2024 presidential campaign! Although I suspect he’ll be back in 2028, he now knows, apparently, that he can’t win in 2024 without the massive number of Trump loyalists. Will DeSantis supporters migrate to Hailey or Trump? We’ll have to wait and see.

In short, more and more Americans are turning to Mr. Trump for presidential leadership, and many of them are doing so with more and more conviction and fervor. Along these lines, I’ll share a humorous meme I’ve recently run across. Using photos of actor/director Mel Gibson before and during his movie masterpiece “Brave Heart,” one wag has posted the following:

HELL YA!
