Vanity Project?

Question: How many readers have heard mention, in our beloved media, that the House Of Representatives actually PASSED a budget on Thursday that INCLUDED funding for the border wall?… Just as I thought…. Not too many…. None-the-less, they DID pass it. By a vote of 217 to 185 on December 20th, the House voted to PASS a budget INCLUDING funding for the border wall. The Senate, so far, remains deadlocked, so the wall remains “in play” and will remain so through out the Christmas recess. But we are much closer to funding the wall than the media would have you believe.

Never one to miss a moment in the “lime light”, however, blabbermouth Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) went in front of the cameras to claim that building the wall was nothing more than a “vanity project” for Mr. Trump. In fact, he crassly implied that it was nothing more than a show of “manhood”…. Really?… That’s ALL there is to it, Mr. Blumenthal?… “Vanity”?

What about human suffering? The fact that the ABSENCE of a border wall, together with the ambiguous and inadequate immigration policy the United States currently has on the “books”, together with poorly disguised political activism on the part of leftist agitators, has lead to much suffering, misery and even death, apparently, does not seem to impress Mr. Blumenthal. He has his gaze fixed, it seems, only on creating troves of future Democrats.

And, the latest drivel to come from his lips claims that the Democrats really “do want border security” (he must have seen the results of numerous polls that demonstrate that Americans do NOT, in fact, want unchecked immigration). But, he now insists, cleverly, that, though he earnestly supports border security, he’s only in favor of “efficient” methods of providing security, such as drones and patrols and the like. NOT, however, the wall. What???… Since WHEN did ANYONE in our government give a hoot about “efficiency”?… If it’s “efficiency” he wants, then he better turn around and look in the mirror. There are THOUSANDS of ways in which Democrats could improve the efficiency of the United States government. Avoiding a border wall, however, is NOT one of them.

In the mean time, it SHOULD have occurred to Mr. Blumenthal, that a PHYSICAL barrier would be so much better at DISCOURAGING the formation of migrant caravans and the humanitarian disaster that they cause (See two of my previous essays: “Who Is To Blame?”, 12/20/18, and “The Compassionate Wall”, 4/27/18). It should also have occurred to him that a physical wall would also be better at providing security and allowing border patrol and our State Department to properly vet the migrants that do show up. Careful screening would help to minimize the social problems that would accrue if large numbers of uneducated, often illiterate, often sickness plagued migrants from vastly different cultural backgrounds and communities prone to violence and strife, were allowed into our country en mass? It should be clear, then, that both humanitarian concerns and concerns regarding security make the border wall so very important. So, Mr. Blumenthal, the wall is a “Vanity Project”?… I don’t think so.
