Say WHAT?
Does anyone recall the major theme promulgated by Democratic politicians and the liberal media following the shooting of Republican Congressman Steve Scalise (and a number of others) on June 14, 2017, by James Hodgkinson, a left wing activist (and Bernie Sanders campaign worker!) at a charity baseball game in Virginia?… Was it outrage over the violent act?… No, it wasn’t… Was it concern for those that were injured or maimed?…. No, not that either… Was it a lamentation on how crazy leftist activists in America have become?… No, not at all…. It was… (are you ready for this?)… grave concern that the commentary revolving around the shooting of conservative Republicans by a leftist activist might become…. brace yourself… politicized!!!… That’s it, ladies and gentlemen!!!… After that horrific mass shooting (certainly a political event), all the media was concerned about was that the discussion might be POLITICIZED!!!… Say WHAT?
It’s with this recollection in mind that the thoughtful observer will note with extreme irony that the theme that has followed the recent rash of postal pipe bombs (deplorable actions to be sure) addressed to prominent Democrats, has been immediately and dramatically… POLITICIZED!!! Apparently they have forgotten their past indignation. One by one, Democratic “luminaries” have scrambled up to any microphone that they could find, to rail against Republican politics. NO ONE, apparently, in the entire Democratic party, nor the liberal media, seems to have ANY qualms about politicizing THIS event. And who do they say bears the brunt of responsibility for these heinous acts?… Well, you guessed it!… President Trump, of course. Bill DeBlazio, Andrew Cuomo, and Hillary Clinton have all said that it was Mr. Trump’s “condoning violence” that’s to blame!… Say WHAT?… As my readers will know, I follow Mr. Trump’s activities and speeches VERY closely, and, while I’ve heard him say many outrageous things, I have NEVER once heard him condone violence in any way, shape, or form, in any public venue, large or small, EVER! I’ve heard him disparage the media (“don’t believe the c**p you hear from these people” (the press) and call their reporting “fake news”, but I have never heard him exhort his fans to violence or intimidation. Compare that to Nancy Pelosi saying that: “I don’t understand why there’s not UPRISINGS all over the country.” (emphasis mine) (Source: Washington Times, June 14, 2018). Or Tim Kaine’s exhortations that Democrat’s need to “FIGHT IN THE STREETS” (emphasis mine) (Source: MSNBC interview of Kaine by Mika Brzezinski, January 31, 2017). Or Maxine Waters: “If you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and create a crowd. And you PUSH BACK AT THEM”. (emphasis mine) (Source: Fortune Magazine, June 25, 2018). Or even, from that doyen of poise and grace, Hillary Clinton: “If we are fortunate enough to win back the House…that’s when CIVILITY CAN START AGAIN.” (emphasis mine) (Source: Rachel Ventressa, CNN, October 9, 2018).
Adding further incredulity to the current Democratic posturing is their disgusting support, either explicitly or implicitly, of violent leftist organizations, from Antifa (balaclava clad thugs with clubs and crowbars, that have been involved in numerous riots, and that advocate “any means necessary” to achieve their ends) all the way to Black Lives Matter (who have been responsible for the MURDER of multiple police officers). And let’s not forget the violent menacing that has effectively stifled any meaningful political debate on campus.
All of this, dear readers, is even worse than “the pot calling the kettle black”. It’s a complete reversal of reality. So, the next time a Democrat or liberal commentator tells you that Trump is to blame for our political violence, just answer: “Say WHAT?”
