Walk Away

Dear friends and readers, I am in Washington, DC, this morning to participate in a march organized by a group called: #walkaway. If you are not familiar with #walkaway, it is an organization founded by Brandon Straka, a mere seven months ago. As Brandon freely admits: he is a former liberal that decided to “walk away” from the Democrat/liberal/leftist/progressive movement because he came to be disgusted by what that movement had turned into. I would invite interested readers to go to their website for a fascinating glimpse into their campaign:

My wife and I went to a dinner party last night for donors and supporters of the movement. We often hear the buzz word “diversity” used by liberals to champion their cause, but what struck me, first and foremost, about the gathering last night, was the amazing diversity of the attendees. Conservative Republicans are often described, disparagingly I might add, as “elderly white males” (the snide phrase “frail pale males” is sometime used) I can definitively state that was NOT true of the group last night. Although there were certainly senior members present, there were many 20 somethings and 30 somethings in attendance as well. There were actually more women than men. And there were many “minority” participants. There were “Latinos For Trump”, “Gays for Trump” (Brandon Straka, himself, is gay), BIKERS for Trump”. There were a number of individuals with hair colors not found in nature. There were military members. Farmers. Businessmen. “Hippies”. And there were many, many blacks. Although, undoubtably, the majority of participants were Republican, I HAD to chuckle to myself, as I surveyed the crowd: “This isn’t my father’s Republican Party!”

Anyway, there was great camaraderie across an extremely diverse group. I was proud to be part of it.

I’ll have to stop now, as it’s time to march. I am not looking forward to 5 or 6 hours in the pouring rain, but I am looking forward to being there.
