The Preposterous Michael Bloomberg
(Revised from 2/19/20)
The latest Marist poll shows that Michael Bloomberg has risen to SECOND PLACE in the Democrat race for presidential candidacy. This, undoubtably, reflects two factors: 1) He has spent ONE QUARTER OF A BILLION DOLLARS on advertising blitzes. 2) His “competition” in the Democrat field is so incredibly WEAK. None-the-less, his strong showing is still remarkable, however, considering that he has all the media presence of a wet dish rag.
Although Bloomberg’s three term stint as “Republican” Mayor of New York City was generally popular, at least among the locals, I couldn’t help myself, curmudgeon that I am, from compiling a list of his many episodes of colossal bad judgement and egregious malfeasance while at city hall. Now, with him again in the limelight, I feel compelled to revisit my list. In fact, I now am able to add a couple more items! Without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, Michael Bloomberg’s many faux pas:
1) With abject disregard for the 9/11 victim’s families, Bloomberg came out in favor of building a “Ground Zero Mosque” adjacent to the spot where Islamists murdered 3,000 innocent people, many of them horribly. Not only was he guilty of extreme insensitivity (some would call it callousness), he was also devoid of any understanding of the pertinent history behind such a mosque. It’s name was to be called the “Córdoba Cultural Center And Mosque.” Although this name sounds innocent to the uninformed, it’s hidden meaning was very dark. Unbeknownst to Mr. Bloomberg, the city of Córdoba, Spain, was the point of maximum advance of the Muslim armies that invaded Spain. The “Córdoba Mosque” would have been seen as an avant-guard outpost to aspiring jihadis. I dare say that this would NOT be the message we’d like to display. To defend his egregious position, all that Bloomberg could muster was to claim, preposterously, that “if we don’t build it, the terrorists will win.”
2) In 2011, he hired Ms. Cathie Black as School Chancellor for the entire city of New York. Problem is, Ms. Black had NO experience or background what-so-ever in the field of education!
3) With consummate gall, toward the end of his second term, Bloomberg had the city constitution changed to allow HIM to run for a third term. But then, with even more gall, once he was elected to a third term, he CHANGED IT BACK, so no one else could do the same!
4) A basic axiom of economics is that increased taxation ALWAYS weakens a struggling economy. Apparently unaware of this, he came out, in a big way, for INCREASING taxes in the middle of RECESSION!
5) He passed a city ordinance prohibiting the donation of actual FOOD to homeless shelters in New York City (monetary donations were still allowed) because, get this, the high salt and high cholesterol of such donations might be bad for the health of the recipients (bad for undernourished or STARVING people?)!!!!
6) In flagrant “nanny state” mode, he enacted a LAW prohibiting the sale of large glasses of soda!
7) And,,at one point he suggested, AMAZINGLY, that policemen should go on STRIKE to promote stricter gun control!
Now that the amazing Mr. Bloomberg is running for President, two other things can be added to this already remarkable list.
8) Despite claiming to be an advocate of women’s rights, it turns out that NUMEROUS women have accused him of fostering a degrading and abusive atmosphere toward women in his own company. As reported by ABC News (Llamas, Bruggeman, Pezenik, Simpson & Mosk, December 15, 2019) Bloomberg has settled SEVENTEEN SEXUAL HARASSMENT LAWS SUITS. SEVENTEEN!
9) But, perhaps his most ridiculous faux pas occurred on November 18, 2019. Speaking at a black church, he feigned a “heartfelt” apology for the “stop and frisk” police policy that he had repeatedly defended during his terms as mayor, and, at one point, he appeared to CHOKE BACK TEARS. His obvious pandering for minority votes ignored the fact that the program was extremely successful in getting guns off the streets, thereby protecting the minorities he was now pandering to!
And, for those of you who might try to defend the man by pointing to the general success of his tenure, I would counter that EVERY SINGLE success that he is eager to take credit for, was the result of policies put in place by Rudy Giuliani, the mayor that preceded him.
Michael Bloomberg for president?… PREPOSTEROUS.
I’ve read this more than one time . Same conclusion why would he be running then a rumor came out they have no one OMG…..
