Referendum Trump
They were SO sure! They were completely convinced! They were so positive that Democrats would carry the day in 2017’s special elections, that they just couldn’t CONTAIN themselves! They just couldn’t SHUT UP! They INSISTED that these contests would be a watershed. They INSISTED that the special elections be viewed as REFERENDUMS on the young Trump Presidency. They just KNEW that Americans would come out in DROVES to repudiate, and, perhaps, HUMILIATE, our President. All the talking heads agreed that these special elections would be additional “nails in the coffin” of the Trump Presidency (or, perhaps in a few twisted minds, the man himself). Well, guess what?…They were WRONG!
IMAGINE THAT!
They were WRONG! (again).
And although they carried out media “saturation bombing” on two of the contests that they felt they had the best chance to win, there actually have been four special election contests in play.
First, of course, is today’s 6th district Georgia. Despite all the pre-election polls showing Democrat Jon Ossoff in the lead (why do we even BOTHER reading these things?), Republican Karen Handel handily (pardon the pun, but I just couldn’t resist) beat Ossoff (50.2>48.1!) And that’s despite over 30 MILLION dollars of DNC money, and LOTS of celebrity visits!
Hang a big one up for Trump.
Then there’s Montana. On May 25, Republican Greg Gianforte solidly beat Democrat Rob Quist (50.2>48.1), despite Rob Quist’s wide brimmed cowboy hat, and, despite the fact that Gianforte will have to answer charges for an altercation with an intrusive reporter that occurred the DAY before the election.
Another big one for Trump.
Also, there was a special Congressional election today in Kansas. Republican Rob Estes tounced Democrat James Thompson (52.5>45.7)
Chalk another one for Donald.
And, today, in South Carolina’s special Congressional election, Republican Ralph Norman solidly beat Democrat Archie Parnell (52.1>47.9).
Put up another point for Trump.
So, combine all of these victories with the appointment of Justice Niel Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. Throw in the dismissal of a highly partisan FBI director. Add the fact that thorough “collusion” investigations found NOTHING, and it looks like Team Trump is, despite incredible obstructionism on the part of very “sore looser” (and well financed) Democrats, doing pretty darn well. If it’s a referendum they wanted, it’s a referendum they got!
