Makes Absolutely No Sense
The accusations that the sovereign state of Russia interfered in the 2016 United States presidential campaign for the specific purpose of helping Donald Trump win the presidency has given downtrodden American leftists/”progressives” a glimmer of hope as they face the dark days of participatory democracy. Consequently, they keep trying to beat a dead horse. Despite the fact that NO ONE with a security clearance that has looked at the issue critically (including, by the way, Democrats and the FBI) has found ANY sign that the Russians had any effect what-so-ever on the PROCESS of the election, and despite the fact that ABSOLUTELY NO ONE has found any sign that the Trump campaign colluded in any way with the Russians, the Democrats and leftists won’t let the matter die a natural death. They are desperate to invoke the ghost of Watergate Past! They demand that Mr. Nunes recuse himself. They demand a special prosecutor. Some (including delusional Congresswoman Maxine Waters) want to start impeachment proceedings NOW! (On what grounds, however, they do not specify.) They’d even PRAY for divine intervention, except, of course, that the majority of them don’t believe there’s a God to pray to!
But despite all of this, a very important fact is often overlooked: the putative Russian intervention to help Mr. Trump in the 2016 election makes absolutely NO SENSE! NO SENSE WHAT-SO-EVER!
This assessment, shared by many observers, was articulated quite nicely a couple of weeks ago by retired Attorney General (from the Bush administration) Michael Mukasey. Mr. Mukasey was being interviewed by Greta van Susteren for CNN. During that interview Mr. Mukasey lucidly explained that Russia’s hacking activities during the campaign, if in fact they existed, would NOT have been for the purpose of helping Mr. Trump win the presidency, for the simple reason that absolutely NO ONE (including the Russians) believed that Mr. Trump COULD win. NO ONE goes to bat for a candidate that’s certain to lose! If the DNC and the Clinton campaign were, in fact, hacked by the Russians, it would more likely have been, according to Mr. Mukasey, to “dig up dirt” on the more than likely next President of the United States, Hillary Clinton. And, there were ample reasons to believe that there was a lot of dirt to be dug up. The “dirt” could then be used at a later time to embarrass the future president or perhaps hold some leverage over her if the going got rough. It may also have been carried out for one of the primary goals of spy programs in general, namely to simply gather intelligence, thereby understanding the “enemy” and/or rival, better. All of these other motivations make sense, whereas a burning desire in Mr. Putin to help an inevitable loser does not. Will someone mention this to Ms. Pelosi, Mr. Schiff and Mr. Schumer? PLEASE?
