HAPPY NEW YEAR, 2026 (It Isn’t Diversity)
“Diversity is our strength!” It’s said over and over again. Often by leftist professors and political activists. It’s chanted over and over again. Often by people with pink and purple hair. “Diversity is our strength!” But is it really?
There’s no question that, America, looked at from any angle, certainly IS diverse (perhaps not AS diverse as, say, the bar room scene in the original Star Wars movie, but diverse none-the-less). But is it “diversity per se that is the cause of American greatness? I think NOT. It’s something else.
Although America is clearly a diverse place, what has made America great is: COMMONALITY OF PURPOSE. America is (or was) a nation blessed by people of all colors, faiths and creeds, working TOGETHER toward the same goal: a free and prosperous land of opportunity. The “melting pot” meme did NOT mean that immigrants had to disguise their color, renounce their faith or abandon their beliefs. But it DID mean that all had to look to a greater whole and work together as ONE PEOPLE. As it is said in Latin (and the back of our currency): E PLURIBUS UNUM. Out of many…one.
With the recent zeitgeist of “identity politics” ever dividing us, the bedrock concept of working together is being eroded. Let us hope, in this brand new year of 2026, that America turns, once again, to its single most important virtue: all of us working together toward a common goal.
Happy New Year!
