Election 2024 Post Mortem, Part One
In medicine a “post mortem” is an examination of a deceased individual by a pathologist for the purpose of determining the cause of death and what happened to the “dearly departed.” It is often also called an “autopsy.” It some times has, however, a broader usage implying a critical review or investigation of some completed event or process in order to evaluate that event and determine what went wrong or what went right. It is in this sense that I offer some thoughts on the 2024 presidential election, arguably the most important election of our lifetime. Post Mortem reports generally have subheadings (heart & lungs, nervous system, etc.), so I’ll provide them as well.
HISTORY
Trump will go down in history as one of the greatest American presidents (along with Washington, Lincoln and Reagan) for his herculean determination to save this country (and Western Civilization) from the diabolical Left. Although conservatism and traditionalism have and have had many proponents and advocates, I believe that only Donald J. Trump had the tenacity and courage to have withstood the ferocity and relentlessness of attacks from the leftist, liberal “progressive” Democrats and their allies, in their campaign to destroy him. Let’s recap: Trump faced two impeachment attempts, four criminal felony indictments and one civil suit. Adding up the totals, he was facing HUNDREDS of years in prison and fines of several hundred million dollars. Then there were not one, but TWO assassination attempts, one of which came frightfully close to success. He also faced a constant stream of insults and opprobrium, attacks against his sons and his family, and howls of rage from celebrities and glitterati. But, all of this TOGETHER could NOT stop this man in his quest to save the soul of our great nation. Many people regard his epic comeback as providential, with, I feel, considerable justification. Many prayers, it seems, were answered by his victory.
Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, a man who knows history well, has remarked that Trump’s victory is “the greatest one in history.” Perhaps so. In my mind, at the very least, you’d have to go all the way back to Winston Churchill in 1939 to see anything remotely like it. As noted by politico.com: “Churchill’s rows with his Conservative party over India and Britain’s appeasement of Nazi Germany kept him out of government for a full decade before World War II — until beleaguered Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain brought his rival into Cabinet after Adolf Hitler invaded Poland. Churchill then succeeded Chamberlain as PM soon there after, where upon he became one of the U.K.’s most iconic leaders, leading the fightback against Hitler’s Nazis.”
THE KEYSTONE COPS DEMOCRATS
Although Donald Trump’s personal strength as well as the strength of his ideas and plans are the prevailing factor in his election victory, it must be appreciated that he was aided in his victory by the absolutely dismal strategy of the Democrat Party. Not only should an already mentally impaired Joe Biden NEVER have been a candidate in 2020, he should have never never been allowed to run again in 2024. A proper Democrat primary would have exposed Biden’s dementia earlier and allowed a better choice for the candidacy. Next, replacing him with Kamala Harris (which must have been based upon the fear of driving off the black Democrat base), an intellectual “light weight” (to put it kindly) with a history of radical leftist beliefs (making Vermont’s Bernie Sanders look CONSERVATIVE by comparison) and Marxist loyalties, was beyond stupid. AND, adding a doddering leftist (making KAMALA look CONSERVATIVE by comparison!) vice presidential pick in Tim Walz, instead of the sophisticated and more moderate Governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, was a step beyond “beyond stupid.” Unfortunately, Shapiro, being Jewish, was disqualified in the increasingly anti Semitic modern Democrat party. Yes, although Trump was a strong candidate, and would have won anyway, with Shapiro as VP candidate, the race would have been much closer and not the embarrassing LANDSLIDE that it was.
