Look Who’s A Threat To Democracy Now
House of Representative member from the state of Maryland, Jamie Raskin, made the astonishing claim that IF Trump WERE elected again to the Presidency (those leftist/“progressives” are getting pretty NERVOUS, aren’t they?) that Congress should DISQUALIFY him and NOT ALLOW him to take office. Raskin bases his plan on Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which reads as follows:
No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.
The crux of his plan is that Trump supposedly participated in an “insurrection” on Jan 6, 2021. Somehow Trump asking his followers to: “patriotically and peacefully” (verbatim) demonstrate is construed by Raskin to be “insurrection.”
Unfortunately for Raskin, President Trump was found NOT GUILTY of insurrection during his second impeachment proceedings where a conviction was NOT reached. By the way, “impeachment” is “bringing charges” and is, emphatically, NOT a conviction.
Neither has Mr. Trump been found guilty in criminal court. In fact, Mr. Trump has never even been CHARGED with insurrection in a criminal court:

As indicated in the article referenced above, Mr. Trump has “been charged with four criminal counts, including conspiracy to defraud the US and conspiracy against the rights of citizens. Some had speculated he would be charged with insurrection, or aiding insurrection, but that is not one of the charges.” (Jul 15, 2024)
Deceptively, Raskin refers to the 14th Amendment, Section 3 in the video, but does not QUOTE it as I’ve done above. Presumably he knows that the actual quote emphasizes “insurrection” which Mr. Trump has NOT been convicted of and has NOT been criminally charged with. In other words, Raskin plans to subvert the will of the electorate with flimsy interpretations of the Constitution. Look who’s a threat to Democracy now!
