It’s All They’ve Got

It has now become apparent what the Democrat salvage strategy will be: “LIES, LIES, AND MORE LIES!” As one Democrat apologist put it: “Biden may be a poor debater, but at least he told the truth.” He was implying, of course, that Trump lied repeatedly. The irony of this claim is, to say the least, breathtaking. My last essay presented a laundry list of the many times Biden “misspoke” during the debate. Here, I would like to look at the supposed lies Mr. Trump was accused, by Joe Biden, of saying. (Parts of this essay were extensively drawn from an analysis by Robert Spencer, a scholar, commentator and Shillman Fellow at the David Horowitz Freedom Center, and posted on the Geller Report blog).

So, the Democrats have decided to try reframe Biden’s appalling performance in last Thursday’s debate as an awkward but HONEST performance. But this strategy, very weak upon its face, is even more appalling in light of the fact that Biden lied his way through the entire debate.

As Biden himself said at a Friday rally: “Well, folks, I don’t walk as easily as I used to. I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to. I don’t debah — debate as well as I used to. But I know what I do know. I know how to tell the truth.” His boss Barack Obama quickly jumped in: “Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know. But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself. Between someone who tells the truth; who knows right from wrong and will give it to the American people straight — and someone who lies through his teeth for his own benefit. Last night didn’t change that, and it’s why so much is at stake in November.” The “knowing right from wrong” claim is especially laughable in light of Biden’s Burisma dealings, his collusion with China, his obfuscation of his son’s infamous lap top (supposedly “Russian misinformation, subsequently proved to be 100% accurate) and self admitted extortion of the Ukrainian prosecutors investigating his criminal son.

As Robert Spencer has noted: “‘Truthful Joe’s’ ‘bad debate night’ was made worse by the fact that the garrulous old kleptocrat lied pretty much every time he opened his mouth.”

First, Biden repeated the old charge that Trump refused to visit the graves of fallen U.S. soldiers in France and called them “suckers and losers.” Trump denied ever having said, and it was never recorded or proven. so. The only one who ever claimed to have heard it was Trump’s, ex-Chief of Staff John Kelly, who had so much bad blood with Trump that he was subsequently FIRED. Kelly also claimed that Trump refused to to go to a WWII cemetery. No other person of the 19 or 20 individuals there corroborated Kelly’s claim. In fact, former Ambassador John Bolton, who has harshly criticized Trump on other issues, and WAS there, said in Sept. 2020: “I didn’t hear either of those comments or anything even resembling them. I was there at the point in time that morning when it was decided that he would not go Aisne-Marne cemetery. He decided not to do it because of John Kelly’s recommendation. It was entirely a weather-related decision, and I thought the proper thing to do.”

Next, Biden claimed that Trump said that Hitler “did some good things.” Once again, the source for this is John Kelly, who has already been shown to be an unreliable witness. Trump’s spokesperson Liz Harrington said: “This is totally false. President Trump never said this. It is made-up fake news, probably by a general who was incompetent and was fired.”

Next, Biden also dragged out his oft-repeated claim that Trump said that the National Socialists demonstrating in Charlottesville were “fine people.” This lie is particularly galling, for, at the press conference where Trump supposedly made this statement, what Trump DID say was: “I’ve condemned neo-Nazis. I’ve condemned many different groups, but not all of those people were neo-Nazis, believe me. Not all of those people were white supremacists by any stretch.” The “fine people” description was meant to apply, in a general sense, to both conservatives and liberals.

Biden then claimed that Trump “wants to get rid of Social Security.” Yet what Trump REALLY said was: “This man (Biden) is going to single-handedly destroy Social Security. These millions and millions of people coming in, they’re trying to put them on Social Security. He will wipe out Social Security.” Warning that Biden regime policies are endangering Social Security would NOT be something that a man who wanted to “get rid of” Social Security would say. Obviously.

And, besides lying outright, Biden also demonstrated anew that by repeating these claims over and over, what he’s really proving is that much of the opposition to Trump is based not on his policies, but on rude or unkind things he has supposedly said. And all of this dredging-up of ancient and discredited quotes is a blatant attempt to keep people from looking at Biden’s record.

So, dear readers, as I said in my previous essays, the “LIE!” strategy, as transparent and weak as it is, is… ALL THEY’VE GOT. I believe the American public will NOT be fooled.
