Musk Saves The World

Coming of age in the 60s, it seemed that EVERYONE wanted to “save the world.” In America’s collective imagination, Superman, Batman and James Bond “saved the world” from the likes of Lex Luther, the Joker and Stavro Blofeld, and did so on a regular basis. In the real world, true heroes like John F. Kennedy (ending the Cuban missile crisis), Ronald Reagan/H.W.Bush (ending the Cold War), Pope John Paul/Boris Yeltsin (ending the Soviet Union) really did save the world.

Now, in 2022, Elon Musk is doing it as well. With his bold 44 billion dollar purchase of media giant Twitter, he is, single handedly, protecting the very bedrock of free societies the world over: freedom of speech. As Benjamin Franklin noted, “Whoever would overthrow the Liberty of a Nation, must begin by subduing the Freeness of Speech.” Censorship of free speech is one of the most important tools used by despots throughout world history. Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Castro and others depended heavily on censorship to stymie opposition and advance their nefarious agendas. And now American leftists are carrying that totalitarian tradition into the twenty first century.

Historically, free speech has always been one of America’s core values. Protecting the right to free speech is, after all, in the FIRST AMENDMENT to our Constitution. It’s value was taught in every civics and political science class throughout the land. Americans MEANT IT when they said: “I disagree with what you say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it.” Amazingly, however, in recent years, free speech has been under attack. And, although the threat comes from many directions, the most audacious assault currently is from the American left. Throughout world history, leftist movements have thrived by eliminating opposition. In today’s media driven world, however, such elimination doesn’t require the traditional leftist method, EXECUTION. Today, eliminating opposition is carried out electronically. In the twenty first century, internet based media have become the foremost forum for news, discussion and debate. Over the past ten years, however, internet media has become extremely partisan and increasingly censorious of news and all debate deemed “politically incorrect.” As my readers will know, Twitter had the audacity to ban President Donald Trump from its pages. Twitter claimed that the ban was to “protect” the American people. But that claim is hollow. Twitter “protection” goes only one way. Although the media has “protected” the populace from “dangerous Donald Trump,” the reader may be surprised to learn that, as of March 9, 2022, dictator and suspected war criminal, Vladimir Putin, with the blood of THOUSANDS of innocents on his hands, STILL HAS his Twitter account! His handle is: @President of Russia.

But claims of a violent scenario aren’t always needed to get the censors going. Just prior to the fateful 2020 presidential elections, Twitter suppressed coverage of the infamous Hunter Biden laptop. The story, that was run in the major American newspaper, The New York Post, and who’s accuracy has never been challenged, was suppressed on Twitter. And Twitter did so for no other reason than that it would have been damaging to favored candidate Joe Biden’s quest for the presidency! Twitter simply didn’t LIKE it.

And it doesn’t necessarily take Presidents or presidential candidates to alarm the censors. An earnest conservative blogger, former liberal, Brandon Straka, was “search banned” on Twitter, making him just about impossible to follow. Although the ban was claimed to be a “response” to the January 6th protests and riot, Straka was banned primarily because he had infuriated Democrats and liberals by urging liberals to “just walk away” from the Democrat party. That theme is, apparently, verboten. Facebook then followed Twitter’s lead and removed Straka’s entire “Just Walk Away” account from its pages thereby disenfranchising half a MILLION followers.

One of the tropes most commonly used by America’s electronic censors to justify banning conservative viewpoints is the label “hate speech.” While true hate speech is nothing we welcome or encourage, very often that term is applied to speech and ideas that simply make leftists and democrats “uncomfortable,” i.e. ideas that they don’t like. Such gobbledygook, I’m afraid, comes to the media from the avant-garde of progressivism, academia. Academia’s use of the term “hate speech” involves keeping today’s students away from their “safe spaces.” Hate speech, they say, is rife with “micro aggressions.” Did you know, dear reader, that telling a foreigner “You speak good English.” is a micro aggression? Or, using the pronouns “he” or “her” is a micro aggression as well? (source the National Education Association, www.nea.org)

Other common censor tropes are the terms “misinformation,” and “fake news.” While false or inaccurate reporting does sometimes occur, it turns out, however, that, most of the time, the term “fake” is simply what the Democrats and leftists SAY it is. Recently, for example, after three years of intense investigation, special prosecutor John Durham’s recent indictments linking the Steele Dossier (which was actually PROVEN to be fake!) to Hillary Clinton and the Democrat party (that PAID for it), were down played by Hillary simply as “fake scandal.”

Unsurprisingly, Musk’s purchase, has Democrats, liberals and leftists out of their minds with rage. Many editorials and much commentary claim to be “concerned” about the “danger” the expected Musk “glasnost” (to borrow the Russian term meaning “openness”) will pose to our Republic and our world. Dire predictions have been made. Well, Mr. Musk, stand firm. True free speech is not a danger to our country or our world. In fact, it just might save them .
