Looking Glass World
In Lewis Carroll’s 1871 children’s novel, “Through The Looking Glass,” Alice, the book’s main character, together with her pussycat Kitty, magically cross through the the mirror above her fireplace into a looking glass world. In this strange place, not only are left and right reversed, but so is logic. And so it is with the mixed up United States of America, of 2021.
In the looking glass world in which we find ourselves, everything is backwards. Criminals become saints. Heroes become villains. Wrong becomes right. Words morph into their opposite. Justice becomes unfair. Guilt become malleable. Imaginary becomes reality.
To listen to Speaker Nancy Pelosi thank criminal George Floyd for his “SACRIFICE” was enough to make me nauseated. What sacrifice, Ms. Speaker, were you referring to? Ingesting fatal amounts of fentanyl? Resisting arrest, again and again and again? Committing armed robbery again and again? Pointing a gun at a pregnant woman? Selling illegal drugs?… Exactly, which of these nefarious activities was “sacrificial,” Ms. Speaker?
Nauseating too, was the tearful eulogies given at the funeral services for miscreant Dante Wright, a “great kid” (discussed at greater length in a recent post). What aspect of this criminal’s life is worth eulogizing, may I ask? His multiple drug convictions by the age of 21? His dropping out of high school? His resisting arrest? His selling drugs? His fathering a child out of wedlock that he was unable to support? His waving a loaded gun around in public?… Which of these might we want to eulogize?
Perhaps the most nauseating of all, however, is the public outcry AGAINST the responding officer in the case of Ma’Khia Bryant, a woman seen clearly in multiple videos, attempting to MURDER another woman with a knife. Not only did the activist “community” carry on like the officer involved did something wrong in shooting Bryant (while she was SWINGING a knife aimed at another woman), the MEDIA CARRIED ON TOO! Then, having entered full into the looking glass world, we were treated to videos of Bryant’s mother describe her daughter as an “angel of peace.”… An “angel of peace?”… An “ANGEL OF PEACE!” Who just happens to be swinging a knife at an unarmed woman? Have we LOST OUR MINDS? And, to top this off, we then hear the MAYOR of Columbus, Ohio, Andrew Ginther, in his most apologetic and contrite voice, ask the absurd question: “Bottom line: Did Ma’Khia Bryant have to die? How did we get here? This is a failure ON THE PART OF OUR COMMUNITY. We are ALL responsible.” … “ALL responsible?”… “ALL responsible!,” Mr. Ginther? I think not, good sir. How about Ma’Khia Bryant being responsible?
But maybe he did have a point (unintended I presume): Perhaps governmental officials, himself included, as well as our absurd media, to a degree, ARE responsible. How so? By obfuscating what really happened. By reversing guilt and innocence, as well as victim and perpetrator, they, ultimately, promote and encourage such tragedies to happen again and again and again.
I’ll close, therefore, with an excerpt from a Rolling Stones song from the 60s:
“Just as every cop in a criminal
And all the sinners saints…”
In the song, that line is voiced, of course, by SATAN… Chilling, isn’t it?
