Another Great Kid Shot To Death For No Reason
“He was a great kid.”
That was Dante Wright’s father referring to his recently departed offspring.
I guess the “bar” for “great kid” status has gotten pretty low these days. How many times have we heard this term applied to a wide assortment of ne’er do wells that seem to gain redemption and even adulation on account of their untimely demise (Trevon Martin and Michael Brown come immediately to mind). He was a “great kid” they say. They’re ALL great kids, apparently. And their unfortunate deaths are blamed on every conceivable alibi, except the truth.
The latest case in the weekly litany of “great kids” preyed upon by evil police involved one Dante Wright. As readers will know, on this past Sunday, Wright succumbed to a gunshot wound fired by an arresting officer that, apparently, mistook her firearm for a taser (which also has a pistol grip). Wright’s father calling his son a “great kid” may have been based on things that the father knows about him that we don’t. Or it may be that he’s unaware of many facts about his son. Or, more likely, it may be that he chooses to forget those uncomfortable facts. What facts am I referring to?… Well, there are many.
First, Wright wasn’t pulled over for having air fresheners dangling from his rear view mirror, as is claimed in the media. He was pulled over because he had an expired license plate, which is standard procedure. It could happen to you or me. But, it turns out, that the license plate was the least of his problems. When the officers ran Wright’s identity through their data banks, it turns out, surprise!, there was an OUTSTANDING WARRANT FOR HIS ARREST.
The reason there was a warrant is that he had failed to appear in court, as stipulated, in order to answer serious charges. Those charges were that he had been found to be in possession of an unlicensed gun. The reason he was found with an unlicensed gun was that police had been called when it was reported that WRIGHT was WAVING THE GUN AROUND in public, frightening bystanders. But the unlicensed gun is not all. It turns out that, a few short months ago, Wright was arrested for AGGRAVATED ROBBERY. And that’s not all. In 2019 he was arrested for disorderly conduct. Also in 2019 he was arrested for selling marijuana and a separate arrest for ARMED ROBBERY. And, even THAT is not all. Wright has also been accused of choke-holding a woman and threatening her at gunpoint, demanding that she turn over $820 that she intended to use to pay her rent. Ladies and gentlemen, does Dante Wright sound like a “great kid” to you?… I didn’t think so.
And, on top of Wright’s history of violent crime it’s worthwhile noting that he was also a high school dropout, and that he fathered a child out of wedlock, and then was unable to support that child with the income he earned in minimum wage jobs and petty drug dealing.
So much for the “great kid” baloney. But, why did Wright’s life end at the hands of police on April 11th? Was it because of “systemic racism?” Was it because of “predatory police?” Was it because society failed him?”… No, it was NONE of these things. The answer, dear readers, is simple: HE RESISTED ARREST.
When a perpetrator resists arrest, he throws the process into dangerous uncertainty. Everything changes. It causes the orderly and safe apprehension of suspects to be thrown up into the air. It brings a degree of CHAOS into the mix. And when things become chaotic not only is the suspect’s life put in danger, but the lives of the officers, and, even bystanders are put at risk too.
When will the parents, teachers, ministers, counselors, advocates, commentators and activists own up to the truth? When will they make it clear to everyone, and especially “at risk” youths, that they MUST NOT RESIST ARREST? NO MATTER WHAT. That the risks of doing so are greater that the risks of compliance. That they should not resist arrest for THEIR OWN SAKE AND THEIR OWN SAFETY.
With this in mind, the pandering of activists and the media should be understood as HARMFUL. Anything that takes focus away from the simple mandate stated above, should be seen as perpetuating the problem. It’s about time that America begins to tell the truth. It’s about time, also, that America shoulders it’s responsibility to bring up our youth to be responsible citizens, shun a life of criminality, and, for heaven’s sake, when ever they are in an an arrest situation, to COMPLY with instructions and NOT RESIST. Until we do, the Dante Wrights of America will continue to fall victim to their own dangerous behavior.
Facts are facts are facts…change the narrative to whatever the left wants it to be…feed on the emotions and keep hammering away at what they want to hear…the left has gone haywire..and we are paying for it…and the sad thing is the facts are falling on deaf ears..
Agree fully, Nancy. Thanks.
