A Doddering Speaker
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has a history of confusional and doddering episodes, many of which have been recorded on video, that go back several years. A recent video synopsis that seemingly showed more of the same, however, has been reported by some analysts to have been doctored in such a way as to exaggerate the Speaker’s confusion and stammering. I have reviewed both the synopsis (Pelosi speaking at Center for American Progress) as well as the direct C-span footage of the same event, and, although, there ARE numerous examples of pauses and lapses on the video, the clip does seem to exaggerate them somewhat. This is unfortunate, not only because one thing American politics does NOT need now is more fake news, but also because this misrepresentation will now be used as a blanket excuse for ALL of Pelosi’s on camera confusion, of which there are many true examples.
As I mentioned above, Pelosi’s confessional episodes go back quite a ways. A quick five minute search, for example, revealed a video published on May 24, 2018, by the British newspaper, The Daily Mail, showing her to be quite confused while discussing farm subsidies. This can be viewed at:
Another example is of her announcing her election as minority leader of the House, following Donald Trump’s election:
And, there are many more undoctored examples of Mrs. Pelosi displaying what might be charitably called “senior moments”. No alterations are needed, unfortunately, to make one concerned that the Speaker has early Alzheimer’s Disease. In fact, I would suggest that the interested reader take a look at the direct (undoctored) C-span footage of her press conference on May 23:

Her confusion, stammering and doddering can be seen at 2:45, 3:52, 4:22, 6:10, 7:08, and 9:13.
My favorite, however, is the undoctored still photograph from that same footage at 13:12, where the Speaker explains the THREE things she wants the press to keep in mind:
And THIS is the LEADER of today’s Democratic Party.
‘nough said!
