The Sad Case Of Ilhan Omar
By now, most Americans are familiar with the many offensive remarks made by Minnesotan Congresswoman and Somali refugee Ilhan Omar (The district she represents includes a part of Minneapolis that has so many Somali migrants that it has been nicknamed “Little Mogadishu”). Although the vile nature of her remarks is more than obvious, it should also be appreciated how sad this woman really is.
Gratitude is one of the core emotions that make us human. Lack of gratitude, on the other hand, bespeaks a void deep within the human heart. To have been the beneficiary of a life changing, indeed life saving, rescue by a compassionate and generous country, but not feel a deep gratitude and loyalty to that country, belies a callous soul. Sad indeed.
Ms. Omar was born on October 4, 1981, in Mogadishu, Somalia. She was a child when she and her family entered the Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya in order to escape a brutal civil war. They endured refugee camp life for FOUR YEARS, but then were allowed to come to the United States in 1992. They applied for, and were granted, asylum in 1994.
It should be quite evident that Ms. Omar had been saved from hell on earth, literally, by the United States Of America. One would think that she’d be grateful for such generosity and, as a consequence, feel intense loyalty to the country that saved her. Not so, however.
Instead of sharing America’s September Eleventh grief, she chose to side with Islamists and downplay that attack, as well as the Muslim participation in it. Her callous summation of that day, the astonishing remark that “some people did some things”, has become infamous. But that’s not all.
More recently she has disparaged the 19 Marines who died in battle in Somalia (the story of that battle was made famous by the movie “Black Hawk Down”), pointing out that “many thousands of Somalis were also killed that day.” She deliberately left out the fact that those Marines were battling fundamentalists to open up blocked supply routes so that humanitarian aid could be brought to starving Somalis. By giving their lives, those brave soldiers saved the lives of an estimated 100,000 Somalis that were near death from starvation. A grotesque omission in the narrative, I’d say.
Ms. Omar, also, has advocated on behalf of the Council on American Islamic Relations, or C.A.I.R., an organization that our Department of Justice, during the United States vs. The Holy Land Foundation trial in 2009, has determined to be an un-indicted CO-CONSPIRATOR. In other words, Omar is supporting a terrorist group.
Ms. Omar has also has been pushing for the abolition of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE). Not only would the abolishment of ICE allow our country to be infiltrated by terrorists, it would also allow violent and criminal non political thugs (such as MS-13) to flood our land as well.
Omar has also advocated the adoption of Sharia law in America. In many respects, Sharia Law, in addition to its brutality, is, arguably, incompatible with the Constitution of the United States Of America. (see my essay from 4/19/19: Sharia For America). Were such law to actually be adopted, America would become unrecognizable.
Further, she has publicly denigrated the State of Israel, America’s staunchest ally (and only true democracy) in the Middle East, claiming that Americans who support Israel have “divided loyalty”, and do so for only monetary reasons (her exact quote was: “It’s all about the Benjamins, baby”)!
And, on every available opportunity, she has criticized our President, our Vice President (Commenting on a picture of Vice President Pence in prayer, Omar was moved to remark: “Jesus take the wheel!” dripping with ugly sarcasm), “white privilege” and our society and country as well.
As a result of all this, Ms. Omar has, unwittingly, become a poster child for the idea that Muslim migrants will NEVER fully integrate into the Western countries that take them in. As I said above, it’s sad.
