Ghoulish
Last week, New York State passed a law that they have termed the “Reproductive Health Act”. In a televised speech, and to much fanfare, New York’s Governor, Andrew Cuomo, presented the new law as if it were the pinnacle of Western Civilization. He touted it has a great step forward, and beamed that New York was, once again, leading the way in the “struggle for women’s rights”. To celebrate this momentous occasion, he even ordered the World Trade Center Tower‘s spire to be LIT UP IN PINK! Cheers and applause from the audience followed his remarks. There was jubilation all around. But the dark heart of this new law, ladies and gentlemen, is nothing to celebrate. It is, rather, a ghoulish affair.
In essence, the new law allows “late term” abortion up until the moment of birth. You read that right: UP UNTIL THE MOMENT OF BIRTH. And, unlike the previous New York statutes, it no longer requires that it be done in order to “save the life of the mother”. It stipulates only a vague requirement that it be done for the “mother’s health”. I’d like to explore, for a moment, what the consequences of this new law can be.
I would first ask those readers who have been blessed with children of their own to think back to the delivery of their babies. And, for those readers who haven’t had a child of their own, I would ask them to imagine, for a moment, what it might be like.
Now, consider that glorious moment, just after birth, when the new infant is handed to the mother and father to hold for the first time. Can you imagine anything more precious than that young life? Can you imagine anything more helpless? More defenseless?
Now imagine that precious child ONE DAY before delivery. Just ONE DAY before. That infant would have been NO DIFFERENT than the child that you had held in your arms that wonderful day. NO DIFFERENT in ANY WAY. Yet, now, in the State of New York, it is LEGAL to take that child’s life.
And, it is important to realize, shockingly, that NO methods used in to end the young life in this circumstance are humane. Consider, now, some little discussed, but oh so horrifying facts about late term abortions.
According to americanpregnancy.org, late term abortions are done in one of two ways: induction abortion and dilation an extraction abortion. Let’s look into these methods.
- Induction Abortion. Hypertonic saline (salt) or high concentration potassium chloride (potassium salt) is injected into the amniotic sack. The fetus then ingests the salt by mouth and is killed by salt toxicity. Pitocin and prostaglandins are then administered to the “mother” to induce delivery of the stillborn fetus. Sadly, the high concentration of salt that’s injected causes a chemical BURN over the entire body of the vulnerable fetus producing excruciating pain for the twenty four hours or so it takes the fetus to die. (Yes, the fetus CAN feel pain). Sometimes, to make ABSOLUTELY SURE that the fetus will be stillborn, an ultrasonically guided injection of potassium chloride directly into the fetal heart is given. This produces a chemically induced heart attack, and, with it, the intense pain that any heart attack survivor will attest to.
- Dilation and Extraction. In this procedure, the uterine cervix is dilated (stretched open) and sharp metallic instruments are utilized to dismember and, basically, hack the fetus to death. Since it is difficult to get the fetal skull through even a dilated cervix, it is often CRUSHED with forceps in order to get it out. Some abortion advocates claim that the anesthesia used for the mother will render the fetus pain free. This may sometimes be the case, but, tragically, a painless state must not be universal because I have seen ultrasound recordings of abortions where the fetus is clearly reacting in pain to the abortionist and even appears in some of the videos to be fighting off the curettes that are ripping it apart.
Ghoulish isn’t it? Now, think back again to that new born baby I asked you to recall or imagine earlier in this essay. Consider how it would have been to kill that child, using the methods described above, just one day earlier. THAT’S what the State of New York has LEGALIZED. THAT’S what Andrew Cuomo was so PROUD about. THAT’S what they illuminated the World Trade Tower in pink about. If such barbarity were done to PUPPIES there’d be an OUTCRY of angry protest. Why is NO ONE crying out against the barbaric things that we now can do, LEGALLY, to the most precious, the most helpless and the most defenseless young HUMANS? Ghoulish, isn’t it?
