CENSORSHIP IS NOW
Political writers have long cautioned that censorship harkens the end of a free society. Free speech, they tell us, is the cornerstone of Democracy. The framers of our Constitution recognized this and, accordingly, made protection of free speech, literally, the FIRST AMENDMENT. They couldn’t imagine a free America without freedom of speech. Sadly, such an America is NOT far off. Censorship is here. And it’s here NOW. And, as a consequence, the days of a free American society may be numbered as well.
Most members of America’s contemporary press corps, having cut their teeth during the 60’s, 70’s and the Watergate era, subscribe to a progressive, leftist and liberal point of view. As a result, they choose to practice their trade in a highly biased and partisan manner. There was a time when journalists prided themselves on objectivity and knew the difference between straight news and the opinions that were to be expressed in editorials and op-ed pieces. Not any more. Everything written or shown, it seems, comes with an opinion. Everyone has an axe to grind.
And even more concerning than the biased stories we are seeing, is what we are NOT seeing. News that doesn’t “fit” the progressive agenda is simply not reported. There are many current examples of partisan under reporting: the media refusal to show evidence (available online) of criminal elements marching in the migrant caravan. Or the violence perpetrated by Antifa and Black Lives Matter. Or the embarrassingly poor turn out at Obama’s recent campaign engagements. Or Hillary’s nearly constant choking and frequent falling. Or Obama’s MANY “senior moments” of befuddlement during speeches. Or Nancy Pelosi’s CONSTANT Alzheimer’s confusion. Or the absolute refusal by commentators and “analysts” to ascribe terrorist attacks to Islamist Fundamentalism (blaming “work place violence”, psychiatric problems, and everything but the kitchen sink). Or glossing over Richard Blumenthal’s accusations of dishonesty aimed at Judge Kavanaugh, while neglecting to even MENTION Blumenthal’s blatant lies about SERVING IN VIETNAM during his campaign. Or MANY MANY other “sins of omission”.
Recently, at the #walkaway protest in Washington, DC, I personally observed thousands gathered for the event but was shocked to see that the next day’s “news” either did not report on the march what-so-ever, or, if they did report on it, claimed, falsely, that there was “just a handful” of “extremists” at a “poorly organized” event.
Some of the today’s most shocking under reporting, however, has got to be how the media and the Democrats in government downplay the violence perpetrated by Antifa and Black Lives Matter. It’s very rare for pictures or videos of these thugs in action to get any significant media exposure, and, as a result, many Americans hold a naive view of these individuals and organizations. At one point Barack Obama even referred to BLM as “modern freedom riders”! Media figures also often refer to them and Antifa in positive, even patriotic (!) terms. These organizations, ladies and gentlemen, are NOT what we’ve been led to believe. I have personally seen these people on the streets of Washington DC during the Trump inauguration in January 2017. They wore black balaclavas to conceal their identity. They menaced Inaguration spectators and participants. They carried crowbars. They broke windows. They torched cars. Hundreds were arrested. But all of this received very little coverage, undoubtably because it would have reflected poorly on the so-called “resistance” and the “progressives” who are their (surreptitious) kindred spirits.
Recently, an Antifa group broke into the home of Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson, while his wife was home alone. The intruders chanted “we know where you sleep at night “ and “get out dirty racist scum”. Mrs. Carlson had to lock herself in a closet and call the police, who arrived, thankfully, before she was harmed. Those with a knowledge of history will immediately be reminded of the Nazi “brown shirts” that were a significant part of Hitler’s rise to power. Put in another way, these individuals are the EMBODIMENT of FASCISM. NOT anti-fascism, but fascism itself. Yet this observation is seldom, if ever, explained by our media.
In addition to censorship by the media, progressive acolytes in the realm of business and communications have also joined in. While no one wants to condone profanity laden rants by fringe groups, thoughtful political discourse by conservatives, traditionalists and even religious thinkers have been shadow banned, outright banned, demonetized and otherwise blocked, simply because their content or opinions differ from the “politically correct” agenda.
Just prior to the 2018 election, NBC and Fox yanked a paid video advertisement that showed evidence of criminal participation in the migrant caravan. The ad showed ACTUAL FOOTAGE and INTERVIEWS of criminals (including one man who ADMITTED killing two policemen) to substantiate claims that the migrant caravan harbored such individuals. It did not advocate violence or armed conflict. It urged viewers only to VOTE. The networks claimed that the ad was “insensitive”. But, should “sensitivity” be grounds to block an exposé of a danger to America that’s factually TRUE? These networks seem to think so.
And, dear readers, sometimes these self appointed “guardians” of politically correct thought go beyond censorship and move to outright deception. As recently as September, NBC held back the DENIAL by a witness of claims against Judge Kavanaugh that Attorney Michael Avenatti had, in writing, attributed to her. The denial, had it been released by NBC, would have helped exonerate the Judge during the crucial Senate Judicial Committee hearings. NBC chose, instead, to withhold what they knew. As another example, recall the Time Magazine COVER photo last spring of a crying migrant child facing President Trump which seemed to imply that she was crying because she had been taken away from her parents (at Trump’s direction, of course). The photographer (and Time Magazine) KNEW that the photo HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CHILD BEING SEPARATED. The child had NOT, in fact, been separated. She was crying, because…she was a child. And, there are MANY more examples of outright deception that I could list, but will leave to the reader to identify. So, when President Trump refers to “fake news”, many in the media laugh, but, unfortunately, he is often right.
And, keep in mind, that this trend toward politically correct censorship and deception, despite what “progressives” maintain, was not instigated or promulgated by President Trump, but, rather, was promoted by partisan operatives in American media, business and government. President Trump, his party, his agenda and the American people, are the real captives of this dishonest cabal. CENSORSHIP IS NOW.
