Brief commentary on selected news items:
>Recently I posted a short piece to the effect that America was FINALLY catching on to the extreme bias in America’s major media against Donald Trump (Snippets 11/15/17). I was pleased, therefore, to see the results of a new Quinnipiac Poll: FIFTY EIGHT PERCENT of Americans DISAPPROVE of the way America’s media covers President Trump! Further, FIFTY THREE PERCENT say that the media concentrates too much on negative “stories” about the President. America IS catching on!
>Another “black eye” for the FBI: On Thursday, after a very long trial and extensive deliberation, a jury failed to convict New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez of accepting bribes from Dr. Solomon Melgen (an ophthalmologist and personal friend) and making false statements. After INTENSE investigation of Mr. Menendez by the FBI for FIVE years, all they could come up with was a couple of flights on Dr. Melgen’s private jet and having his hotel tab picked up on a number of occasions by Dr. Melgen. And what did Menendez allegedly do for this munificence? Expedited visas for Dr. Melgen’s lady friends and supporting the doctor in a Medicare fraud case.
The jury saw through all of this, however, and did not convict. (They were deadlocked with 10 for outright acquittal and 2 against). The crux of the hung jury is that they felt that the government presented only evidence of POTENTIAL bribery, but not bribery itself. Smart jury. I wonder, however, how many MILLIONS of dollars the FBI and DOJ wasted on this case.
