And NOW We Know
Well, NOW we know! NOW we know why James Comey and the FBI were so sluggish about investigating leaks of classified information. Turns out, it was HIM!!! Yes, Mr. Comey admitted today, in SWORN testimony to the Senate Investigatory Committee, that HE leaked his OWN memos, at least one of which was classified, to a friend, and then authorized that friend to publicize them. This admitted action is illegal under several sections of the US penal code. In other words, Mr. Comey admitted to committing a CRIME. The fact that he claims that his intentions were good (he hoped the leaks would promote the appointment of a special prosecutor) is not exculpatory under most of these statutes. The proper and legal way to promote the appointment would have been to write a letter to the Department of Justice (actually it would be deputy director Rod Rosenstein because Mr. Sessions recused himself). suggesting such an appointment. Comey KNOWS this. One hopes that he will be charged, tried, convicted, sentenced and incarcerated, just as you and I (and Reality Winner) would be if we had done something similar.
Today’s hearings also uncovered several other important facts.
First, as Mr. Trump has maintained all along, Mr. Comey told him that he (Mr. Trump) was NOT under FBI investigation.
Second, that no evidence has surfaced that Mr. Trump colluded with the Russians in ANY way.
Third, Mr. Trump never tried to impede the investigation or obstruct justice.
Fourth, Mr. Comey does NOT believe that the Russians changed “one vote” in the Presidential election.
These revelations are extremely favorable to Mr. Trump, supporting the position I have long espoused that a full and complete investigation would exonerate Mr. Trump and strengthen his presidency.
It was almost comical to watch major media commentators scramble, after the conclusion of Comey’s testimony, to find something bad or accusatory to say. Several commentators tried (such as aN ABC’ “analyst” saying that “Mr. Trump basically called Mr. Comey a LIAR, so how can we believe Comey’s testimony that essentially exonerated him?”) but were unconvincing.
And, if you think all of this isn’t so important, just remember that for the last couple of days CNN had a COUNTDOWN CLOCK counting the days, hours and minutes until Mr. Comey’s appearance! No kidding. As hard as that is to believe, I am NOT making this up. The countdown clock was in the lower right hand corner of their programing.
