Permanent Critical, Part 3
Well we can all breathe easier now! British Prime Minister Theresa May announced yesterday that the United Kingdom Terrorist Threat Level has been reduced from “Critical” to “Severe”! This change in status came, surprisingly, after the arrest of only 12 jihadis. However, on the same day that the threat level was reduced, the British Government listed another statistic that’s more troubling than any guess at the Threat Level that it might make.
Yesterday, MI5, the British Secret Service, issued a statement warning that there are an estimated 23,000 jihadis currently living in Britain! That’s 23 THOUSAND! (Source: Journalist Fraser Moore, writing in the U.K. newspaper, the Express, published on Sat. May 27, 2017). Reportedly, of the 23,000, the secret service was investigating 3,000 at present. And of these, 500 were thought to be “active terrorists”!
To me, these numbers are staggering. How can a country possibly keep track and monitor 23 THOUSAND people?!! How can it prevent an attack when that attack could come from any one of 23,000 individuals?!! Sounds to me like the threat level should remain at “critical”. And, with 23,000 perpetrators afoot, the threat level will likely need to remain there for the foreseeable future.
