No Wonder They’re Democrats!
Reflecting a bit on the nature of the Democratic Party’s core constituency, I suddenly realized that there was a single commonality that united large portions of the Democratic base. Surprisingly there is something that unites the 49% of Americans that are on some form of Government support, with our illustrious college students and with our ultra rich citizens (George Soros, Bill Gates, Bill and Hillary Clinton and the like).
What, you may ask, could possibly be in common between Bill Gates and, say, Rodney King (while Mr. King was still among the living, of course) and our college youth? What trait or circumstance could these these possibly share? Is it possible that there is a feature that unites them?
The answer, surprisingly, is a resounding YES! Mr. Gates and Mr. King (while alive) and our college students have one very important thing in common! What is it? The answer, ladies and gentlemen, is WORK! That’s right: WORK! None of them has TO DO IT! It’s a fact that neither Mr. Gates nor Mr. King (while still alive) would find themselves FORCED to engage in gainful employment! And the same can be said of our college students, at least temporarily. None of them have to get up early in the morning and pull themselves out of their domicile to face a job that may involve various degrees of unpleasantness for a certain number of hours in the company of people of varying degrees of likability, for varying degrees of remuneration. Unless, of course, they decided that they WANTED TO! None of them would starve if they didn’t produce anything or DO anything for, let’s say, a 100 months. None would find themselves FORCED to do ANYTHING that they darn well didn’t want to do! None would become homeless. None would be denied health care. Mr. Gates could spend the next thousand years or so in complete lassitude and never suffer any ill effects. The same for Mr. King. Even excluding King’s multimillion dollar settlement with the LAPD, he would still, as a welfare recipient, receive food stamps, subsidized housing, subsidized medical care and a stipend to boot. And most of our college students, likewise, find themselves protected from the demands of the work place for at least four years and in many cases much longer.
So these citizens are in brave solidarity because, for a variety of reasons, they are not compelled to carry out gainful employment. No wonder they’re Democrats!
