And Now: The Losers (Part One)
In my post from Saturday, I wrote about the heroes of the 2016 race for the presidency (see “Unsung Heroes, 11/12/16”). It is now time to write about the losers.
Mrs. Clinton, of course, takes Best of Show in the loser category. I say this without any particular enthusiasm or joy, however. In fact, if she hadn’t slept through the brutal murder of Ambassador Chris Stevens and his men, I might even feel sorry for her. I do believe that NO ONE has ever wanted the presidency more and no one, possibly, has ever tried harder. I believe her lack of appearances during large parts of the campaign were not the result of poor commitment or lack of fervor. I believe that it was her ill health that held her back (see several of my previous posts: It’s All Coming Together, 9/12/16; Worrisome?, 9/6/16; Something Left Out, 9/14/16; Another Day Off, 9/22/16). I believe she gave it, literally, her all. But despite epic desire, she failed resoundingly. She was brought down, like a character in a Greek Tragedy, by her own moral and intellectual flaws.
So, as I said above, if it were not for Benghazi, I might feel sympathy for her. But Benghazi DID happen, and that crime (of her many crimes) remains, for me, unforgivable. In fact, with a touch of irony, I think it appropriate to use one of Hillary’s own terms: that crime was “irredeemable”. And, as such, no sympathy will be forthcoming from me.
So, as losers go, Hillary remains Best in Show, Pride of Place. This election cycle HAS, however, produced a host of other losers. I will enumerate some of them, dear readers, in my next post “And Now: The Losers (Part Two)”, coming soon.
