Miranda Rights For Trump
I no sooner wrote an open letter to Mr. Trump this morning, when I turned on the radio to learn Mr. Trump has refused to endorse Paul Ryan’s re-election campaign saying that he’s “not there yet.” Now obviously this is tit-for-tat for Mr. Ryan’s recalcitrant delay in endorsing Mr. Trump. And, as is often the case, Mr. Trump has a point. Trump can be justifiably angry with Mr. Ryan – as one of the leaders of the Republican Party, it was Mr. Ryan’s DUTY to support the Party’s lawfully elected candidate. HOWEVER, Mr. Trump had absolutely nothing to gain politically by demurring or deferring endorsement. He might get a moment of personal satisfaction, but that won’t help his campaign. An endorsement for Mr. Ryan, at this juncture, would have been an opportunity for Mr. Trump to be gracious and magnanimous, qualities he needs to display. Now, in some ways I’m sympathetic to his dilemma: the press, in an unabashed effort to discredit him, CONSTANTLY baits him. Unfortunately, he often takes the bait. I feel like reading him his Miranda Rights: Mr. Trump, you HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT. If you choose to speak, anything you say CAN AND WILL BE USED AGAINST YOU IN THE COURT OF PUBLIC OPINION!
